Tia Bess: Mom’s For Liberty Leader & Local Hero
Review of Article By Steve Patterson, Florida Times-Union
Tia Bess, a woman who sued Duval County schools over their pandemic masking policies, has been appointed the national director of outreach for the conservative education activist group Moms for Liberty. Bess plans to expand the organization's message to all 50 states and wants to ensure that parents in less affluent areas have a voice. She has first-hand experience of this, having felt disconnected from school decision-makers in the past. Bess became involved with Moms for Liberty after sharing frustrations over school system policies relating to COVID-19. She argued that the mask requirements in Duval County would exacerbate her autistic son's hearing and speech limitations and joined nine other households in suing the county, stating that the requirements violated constitutional rights. The lawsuit is still pending in federal court.
